Ohio University has a long history of speech and debate.  The first on campus debate occurred in 1811, and in the over 200 years since, the team continues to flourish.  Ohio University prides itself on being one of the founding members of the National Forensics Associations and is one of only two institutions to have attended every NFA National Tournament since its inception in 1971.

The current team is led by the John A. Cassese Director of Forensics, Jennifer Talbert.  The Speaking Bobcats have won 13 national team championships, 97 individual championships and more than 300 state championships since 1970.

Membership on the team is open to any Ohio University student, regardless of major.  The team travels to approximately 15 tournaments throughout the season.
