Sonia Ivancic earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and Business and Leadership from the University of Puget Sound in 2008. She received a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Colorado Boulder in May, 2014.
Sonia’s research explores the ways that people organize for social change, and more specifically, how people organize around food, the body, and
difference (such as gender, race, class, etc.). Recent qualitative projects asked questions related to how organizations create community around gardening and urban agriculture, how these organizations advocate for social change (and food justice), and how people organize around particular bodies, food, or experiences of poverty. Sonia approaches her research form a feminist perspective and the central motivation of her scholarship is to promote social justice.
Outside of the academic realm, Sonia enjoys creating art, cooking, being active (running, playing soccer, softball, yoga …), the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
